Visitors to our store often ask us for antiques featuring their favorite animals. A preferred choice appears to be horses. Since we live in the country we understand and concur completely.
But choosing an antique with your favorite animal can be challenging, so we make it a point to look for authentic items that have patina, charm and beauty. We’ve selected a few to illustrate what we mean:
When collecting anything, the same rule applies, always buy what you love and spend as much as you can reasonably afford. Buying quality will encourage you to take care of the item while you watch it appreciate in value over time. Buying quality does not necessarily have to be expensive either. There are many antiques featuring horses that are collectible and affordable. Here’s a list of some of the items we like at different price points:
- Staffordshire Horse: This is a rare, highly collectible, Victorian hand painted, dappled horse from Staffordshire, England. It dates to around 1850 and has a charming, naif quality about it.
- Antique German Horse Pull Toy: This charming horse was made in Germany during the Victorian era. It is hand made in papier mache with wooden stick legs and metal wheels
- Stoneware Hunt Scene Pitcher: An exceptional salt-glazed pitcher from England with an elaborate hunt scene stamped 1845 on the base.
As you can see, there are many varied and beautiful antiques featuring horses. If you’re ever looking for something in particular please let us know and we will do our best to find it.
