A trio of antique Staffordshire spaniels in white and russet with soft gilt collars. They vary in size and are hand painted which explains why each dog has a unique facial expression. The back of the dogs are unpainted and have flat backs because they were designed as mantle dogs (also known as a “flatback chimney pieces”). The dogs are Cavalier King Charles spaniels – favorites of King Charles II and Queen Victoria. They look charming grouped together on a mantle, cabinet or table. Unmarked. Made in England. Circa 1860-70.
