Antique Flow Blue oval platter (1891 – 1907). This beautiful Flow Blue serving piece is in the “Verona” pattern by Wood and Son (Burslem, England). The dish has a scalloped edge and a cobalt blue floral transfer pattern that “flows” into the white background. The back stamp consists of a crown that has the words “Verona, Royal Semi-Porcelain” above and a banner with “Wood and Son” below it. Below the banner is the word “England”. Impressed on the bottom of the bowl are the numbers “8” above “05”. This is a lovely antique serving piece and would be a welcome addition to a Flow Blue collection.
The piece measures 9½ inches (24.5 cm) by 7 inches (18 cm) and is 1¾ inches (5 cm) deep.
There are some anomalies in the glaze, which occurred during manufacture, and which are not considered to be flaws. There is one rough spot on the underside (see close-up photo), which is not visible from above. There is also minor scuffing on the inside of the bowl caused by utensils.
