Antique four-bottle cruet (condiment) set, English. Circa 1920. The four matching cut- glass bottles are in a squared-off shape with crisp, Art Deco style decoration. The set consists of: two bottles for oil and vinegar, both with cut crystal stoppers, one bottle with a hinged lid for salt or mustard, and one bottle with a pierced lid for pepper. The square metal carrying frame is rhodium plated and sits on bun-shaped feet.
Vinegar/oil bottles — 6½ inches (16.5 cm) to top of stopper
Pepper — 6 inches (15.5 cm) to top of finial
Salt/mustard — 4½ inches (11.5 cm) to top of finial
Frame — 5 inches (13 cm) square, 9 inches (23 cm) to top of handle
The bottles are in great condition, with no chips, cracks or scratches. One of the stoppers has a very minor flake at the bottom of the stem where it inserts into the bottle and the other stopper has a barely noticeable “ding” where two of the angled cuts meet. Given that the set is over 90 years old, it is extremely well preserved.
