Antique lustre and transfer printed footed bowl. An orange lustre decorated bowl with two transfer printed images and with hand-painted polychrome enamel highlights. On one side, encased within a decorative scroll frame, is an inscription: “He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul” (proverb from the bible). On the other, is an image of a woman, man and baby in a garden scene. A free-flowing orange lustre design joins the two transfer images. There is a matching orange lustre band around the top and bottom rims. Both of the black transfer images are enamel decorated in green and red. Unmarked. Probably made by John Carr & Sons in England where similar marked bowls have been found. Circa 1850-60.
