Antique papier mache snuff/trinket box. Circa 1860. This rectangular, black, japanned (ebonized) papier mache box was originally made to hold snuff but is the perfect size to hold treasured jewellery and/or other trinkets. The hinged lid is inlaid with a border of iridescent abalone fragments within two very fine pewter foil borders, around a central diamond-shaped shell fragment.

Antique papier mache snuff/trinket box. Circa 1860. This rectangular, black, japanned (ebonized) papier mache box was originally made to hold snuff but is the perfect size to hold treasured jewellery and/or other trinkets. The hinged lid is inlaid with a border of iridescent abalone fragments within two very fine pewter foil borders, around a central diamond-shaped shell fragment.

Condition
Minor scuffmarks and wear commensurate with age. The hinges work well. The box opens and closes snugly and easily. No repairs.
