Antique Quebec carved wooden architectural piece. Late 19th century. Relief carved on both sides and on the top, from a single piece of wood, this item has three large, veined leaves on either side of a sturdy tree trunk. The carving is extremely detailed and a close examination reveals the remnants of the original gilding. The item was carved by Antoine Desilets of Quebec City. This beautiful and striking carving has a lovely aged patina.
The piece is 30 inches (76 cm) wide, 5½ inches (14 cm) tall, and 2 inches (5 cm) thick. At some point, circular hooks have been attached to one side so that the piece could be hung on the wall.
