Antique Ridgway “Bacchus and Pan” Relief Moulded Drabware Pitcher/Jug. From the 1830’s. This tan coloured relief moulded pitcher is decorated with four masks of Bacchus (a.k.a. Dionysus), scrolls, anthemion leaves, and fruiting grape vines. The handle is in the form of Pan (a Greek god associated with music) holding his pipes and shepherd’s crook.
The jug is 8 1/2 inches (22 cm) at its tallest point, 5 1/2 inches (13 cm) in diameter and 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) from spout to the back of the handle.
The relief decoration is incredibly detailed and remains crisp, in spite of the age of the piece. The pitcher is in excellent used condition.
