Art Deco Imari porcelain teapot and matching trivet. Circa 1920 (England). The top half of this hexagonal teapot is decorated with Imari style panels in russet, cobalt blue, and gilt. The bottom half is formed into creamy upright ribs highlighted by gilt. The decorated panels on the outside of the hexagonal trivet echo the Imari panels from the teapot. Both teapot and trivet are unmarked, although the teapot has the number 2807, in gold, on the bottom.
Teapot: 6 inches (15.5 cm) to tip of finial; 9½ inches (24 cm) from spout to back of handle; holds 4 cups of liquid.
Trivet: 6½ inches (16.75 cm) by 5¾ inches (14.75 cm) by 1¼ inches (3.5 cm) deep.
The white spots in the photos are due to camera glare rather than missing glaze. There is one small chip on the underside of the teapot spout, which is not visible until you turn the pot upside down (see closeup photo). There is minor wear to the gilt on the teapot but no wear to the designs on the trivet. (One wonders if the trivet was ever used.) Both pieces have very minor crazing in the cream background, which is consistent with the age of the piece.
