Early ironstone “Fenton” Jug 4 ½”. A small ironstone jug of standard Mason’s “Fenton” form having the impressed mark “IRONSTONE CHINA”. The decoration appears to be a copy of Mason’s “Elephant Foot” pattern, examples of which are known with the circular impressed mark dating 1813-20. In “Mason’s China and the Ironstone Wares”, p 262, Godden suggests that the “IRONSTONE CHINA” impressed mark was used by the Wrekin Ironstone Company, Shropshire circa 1815 who is known to have made “very close copies of Mason’s Ironstone”.
The jug is 4 ½” (11.4 cm) tall
