Folk Art Carved Beaver (Quebec). Early-twentieth century. This whimsical piece of folk art came from the estate of a collector/dealer who specialized in Quebec pieces. Carved from a single piece of wood, the beaver rests on a log, which one assumes it has recently toppled. It is signed on the bottom with the initials R.L.
The piece measures 13 inches (33 cm) by 6 inches (15.5 cm) and is 2½ inches (6.25 cm) thick.
There are some age cracks in the wood on one side of the beaver (see photos) but otherwise the piece is in good condition.
