Gorham sterling silver bread plate or wine coaster. The Gorham Silver company (Providence, Rhode Island) first designed and marketed the “Chantilly” pattern in 1895. It became one of the business’ most famous flatware and hollowware designs. This piece was originally sold as a bread plate but more modern buyers used it as a coaster for wine bottles. The piece is hallmarked/stamped with “Gorham Sterling” (in block letters) and the pattern number “738”.
It has a diameter of 6 inches (15.5 cm) and weighs 10.1 grammes.
There are some minor scuffs from usage; otherwise the piece is in good antique condition.
