Victorian child’s moulded lustre cup and saucer. Circa 1880. This unmarked set is utterly charming and would appeal to any cat lover – child or adult. The central image consists of four cats dressed in human clothes: the mother cat holds out a chicken on a platter for inspection by the father cat and both are watched hungrily by two younger members of the cat family. The cup and saucer are pale pink.
Cup: 2½ inches (6.75 cm) tall, 3 inches (8 cm) wide to outside of handle.
Saucer: 5 inches (13 cm) in diameter.
There are imperfections in the pink glaze, which occurred during production (not considered a flaw in something this age) but otherwise excellent condition.
