Vintage Stratton of England compact with Order of the Eastern Star logo. From the mid-1950’s. [The Order of the Eastern Star is the sister organization of the Masons.] This unusual gold-tone metal compact has an abstract, machine-turned design on the top, with the OES logo at the centre of the design. The bottom has an all-over star pattern. The beveled mirror still retains the paper stamp, which reads: “Real Engine-Turned Front”. The Stratton hallmark is stamped on top of the inner lid. The circumference of the compact is comprised of ten flattened scallops, in a design that Stratton entitled the “Queen” pattern. This is a loose powder compact with an inner lid and an inner “sieve” to hold the powder down. Neither the puff nor the powder are present but replacement puffs are available at www.charlesmallory.com in the U.K. This piece would be a welcome addition to a compact collection and/or a collection of Order of the Eastern Star memorabilia.
The piece is 3 inches (8 cm) in diameter and comes with its original felt envelope.
The outside of the compact is in excellent condition; all the clasps hold securely; there is some light scuffing and wear to the inner lid.
